Thesis Research

"Woven Identities —
Spatial Memory &
Cloth in Urban Pakistan"

This thesis examines the woven textile as an archival object — a surface that stores not just pattern, but place, time, and community. Working with weavers across Lahore and Multan, the research maps the disappearance of neighbourhood looming traditions against rapid urban development.

The resulting collection uses Jacquard drafting to reconstruct fragmented warp-face patterns sourced from endangered workshops, translating documentary research into wearable form.

From Research
to Outcome

A consistent way of working — moving from research and concept through to a resolved, production-ready design.

Research & Concept

Every project begins with research into a craft, heritage or material theme — studying its history, motifs and techniques to set a clear direction.

Moodboard & Elements

Visual direction is built through moodboards, then individual motifs and elements are drawn out into a working library to design from.

Design Development

Ideas are developed into compositions and forms — digitally in Illustrator, Photoshop and Wilcom, or through hands-on sampling and manipulation.

04
Final Outcome

The design is resolved into a finished piece — a print layout, embroidery or constructed object — and presented through samples and mockups.
